[3rd Year] Shinsengumi

*History: Shinsengumi is a group of swordmen in 18th century Japan. They were the special police force for the city of Kyoto during the late Tokugawa Shogunate Period. They went against the idea of Japan opening up to accept Western culture (also known as Meiji Restoration). Shinsengumi is a very popular theme for novel, art, drama as well as animation in Japan mainly because each member has very unique characteristics. I really like them too :)

These are just really rough chicken scratches to wrap up the main ideas for each character. I'm gonna go further with these guys when summer break starts and come up with revised characters and a story that explains their personalities, relationships and history.

Sketches #24

3rd year started... I'm stressed... My group is stressed... Everybody is stressed. I never knew group work would be this hard ;_; It's mentally and psychologically demanding

Anyhow, for my animation class I need to do a 30 second action analysis with 5 second fully rendered animation. And I thought I could give my 4th year idea a trial run through this assignment. It's going to be based on a korean folktale and it will definitely have a big, stupid tiger since tiger played a significant role in old koreans' lives.

Playing around with tiger...

The action analysis will be about a baby 'dokebi' (korean goblin/trickster) who tries to uses his magic club to summon delicious food just like other 'doklebis', but keeps on failing and summons weird things. Eventually he gets frustrated and in the end, he summons a big tiger.

The dokebi used to be a lumberjack in my earlier story but the story was too confusing so I changed it...

Sketch #23

concept junks that I always draw whenever I'm bored, for my so-called future project haha;

I don't think people will understand these drawings and they don't really need to know... at least not for now since nothing's ready for public viewing yet ^^;

Well, I drew most of these in the bus, subway and before I go to sleep. Drawing is like a sleeping pill to me. I mean, I used to draw every night on the bed, right before I go to sleep when I was in middle school and highschool :)

I grew a habit of drawing on lined notebooks during the summer... I found my doodles not worthy of living on a clean, blank paper *sigh*

Sketch #22

2nd year is officially done! After about 2 weeks of sleep-deprivation and mal-nutrition, I guess I would look just like this right now. (Hyein's depiction of me)

Anyhow, some random sketches that I've done for the last week.

I take an eye out from one of my own characters occasionally. I would like them to go through lots of pains... am I quite sadistic? =_=

Well, I now have less than a week and a half left till the end of the school. Until then, I have shitloads of things to do! And this is how I feel!

Anyhow, these days, me and my fellows were 'enjoying' drawing and trading a LOT of BL pictures with each other...

(if you have anything against BL a.k.a. Boy's Love, please just NOT LOOK at these, OK? I warned ya!)

But then after few weeks, I went 'what the heck! I want normal relationship pictures too!'

^ Other option for previous character design theme was Victorian. I was doing light sketches based on what I saw when I peeked over my friend's drawing.

^ Storyboard characters! This time, I'm going to upload the uncut version of the entire sequence boards up on the blog since I'm actually having fun with this idea. I need to cut the length of the sequence because the assignment requires maximum of 40 boards and I'm pretty sure that I'm going to go way over.
